The Role of Alloy Elements in Heat Treatment

High pressure die casting aluminum alloy can not be treated at high temperature because internal porosity and gas cause severely surface blister and deformation.Currently,The blistering and deformation can be avoided by using modified solution treatment.Different elements of aluminum alloyw will play different and important role during heat treatment for die casting.Weiheng Die Casting Can Provide T4 and T6 Heat Treatment for Die Casting Parts.

1)Silicon

Silicon is to make much more fluidity during alloy melting.During heat treament, silicon undergoes significant morphological changes. It may be noted that most of changes to Si particles happened during an immersion time of less than 20 minutes, which closely to the appropriate heat treatment time used to avoid blistering. The role of silicon on precipitation processes during the age hardening of many HPDC is quite complex,as it is involved in precipitation associated with the complex phase.

2)Copper

Copper also have positive influence on fluidity. Also,Cu also make die casting parts to be thin wall thickness.Copper also help to increase strength of parts. The differences in levels of 0.2% proof stress between alloys containing 2% and 3.6% Cu was 43 MPa for the raw cast condition and 66Mpa for the T4 temper and 128MPa for the T6 temper.Ageing most alloys to a T6 temper more than doubled their raw cast levels of 0.2% proof stress.

3)Magnesium

Magnesium is kind of element that can strengthen aluminum alloy. The greatest benefit to tensile properties increase up when copper and magnesium are increased up together.

4)Zinc

Zinc is added to alloy to improve castability, machinability, and corrosion resistance. The increase in tensile properties that is facilitated by increasing Zinc content.

High pressure die casting aluminum alloys that respond to age hardening may be successfully heat treated without causing blistering,by solution treating for much shorter times and at lower temperatures. When heat treatment to T4 temper, high pressure die casting generally develop increases in 0.2% proof stress of around 30% compared to the raw cast condition/
