Heat Treatment For Die Casting Aluminum ADC12

High Pressure Casting featured in high strength,corrosion resistance and machining ability so it wildly used in aerospace,marine,automobile and electronics industry.Currently,industrial die casting aluminum include Al-Si,Al-Mg,Al-Si-Cu,Al-Si-Mg etc.As for one type of Al-Si alloy,ADC12 is very useful to reduce weight and oil consumption in automobile.With development of technology,the requirement for die casting aluminum alloy become higher.Normally,deformation and blister will happen to die casting parts after heat treatment.However,the problem can be avoided by adding some elements into alloy.Weiheng Die Casting can provide T4 and T6 heat treatment for die casting parts.

Blister will show up during heat treatment for die casting aluminum.During heat treatment.the strength of material become lower and trapped air underneath surface will come out,which cause blister.Therefore,it is necessary to know the temperature and time consuming which cause blister.There is no obvious blister by heat treatment at 460℃ for 1 hour while some blister show out by heat treatment at 490℃ for 1 hour.The higher temperature,the more blister come out.

After adding 2% copper into ADC12,the strength will have different increasing at solution at different temperature.The strength reach highest level after age for 12 hours and the strength will increase by 83%,82% and 66% at 490℃/1h,480℃/1h,460℃/1h.After adding 4% copper into ADC12,the result will be 85%,79% and 68%.It is similar to adding 2% copper.

With increasing of copper,the strength in high temperature will decrease gradually.When strength in high temperature more than 12.54Mpa,blister will not happen.

Conclusion

  1. To avoid blister and deformation,the heating temperature and time will be 490℃/0.25h maximum.If more than this,the problem will happen.
  2. The strength will increase dramatically and blister will not show up by adding some copper into ADC12 and heat treatment within 460℃ to 490℃.However,the more copper added,the lower strength is.
  3. During solution,the strength in high temperature will become lower.The blister will be avoided once strength in high temperature is more than 12.54MPa.
